It is however, a fount of bright Welo fire when placed in the light. At first, you might see a nearly water clear stone, but just shift the stone slightly and watch the Welo fire come alive.
The fire is dynamic as the honeycomb cells fire in a colorful fashion and then re-fire as the stone is move a bit. The photos below tell most of the story but in person the stone really comes alive. Indeed, it is an enigma which became apparent to me as I gave it the final polish and watched its transformation.
If you are missing a honeycomb Welo pattern in your collection, here's a special opportunity. Dimensions: 14 x 13 x 2 mm. I have been cutting crystal opal from the Welo region of Ethiopia since its discovery in late 2008. Further, I do not treat my stones in any manner; all are completely natural and unaltered by dye, smoke or any other adulterant. Further, my photos are not''doctored'' or adjusted to portray the stone in an unrealistic manner; I attempt to show each stone as accurately as possible given the limitations of a digital camera.
